One of the most common problems of running a vending machine business is to get the approval from other business to let your machine operate in their location. There are a couple of ways to reach other businesses.

The two common ways to approach a potential business is through the telephone or in person. Most people prefer to use the phone because they can reach several contacts in just a few hours. However, the success rate by contacting business through phone is significantly lower than in person, which only balances when you talk to them personally since you can only reach few potential businesses in a walk-in scenario. So, you may always go on whichever you prefer.

Here are five things to remember when you approach a potential business:

Don’t get easily discouraged.

Most of the time people who goes into this business always find it so hard to secure a good location for their vending machines. They often give up after being neglected a couple of times and sometimes wonder that the reason why they’re being neglected is because there’s something wrong with vending business. Even if you’re born with natural people skills, you will still encounter these problems.

Have confidence.

Even when you’re dealing through phone, your voice must have that tone of confidence in it. Your body language may affect the tone of your voice that can easily be heard by the other party. You must also be prepared in answering their questions, in that way your confidence in dealing with them is much higher. Don’t forget to smile when talking to them, it doesn’t only boost your confidence it also has the power to turn things your way.

Make sure that the person you’re dealing with is the one in charge.

This is very important to save you more time and energy. It is very frustrating to know that the person whom you closed the deal with, doesn’t have any authority to do business with you. So, you better check first before approaching or talking to anyone.

Be efficient.

Always remember that the person you are making business with is a very busy person. When you are using the phone, or even in person, always bear in mind that they don’t want their time to be wasted, so you need to be direct to the point. You don’t need to speak quickly, just slow and clear and don’t add unnecessary details that would waste up their precious time.

Keep the records of all the contacts.

Sometimes you cannot reach the right person in charge in approving your vending machine, and when this happens be quick to ask the name of the person in charge and other important details like the time he’s usually in. It is also very important to record all the critical information whenever your machines are approved, like the name of the person who approved it, the date the machine was approved, location and so on.
