Yes, anyone can be a vending machine business operator. Anyone can start their own vending machine business as long as they have the capital. But not everyone will succeed in this endeavor. You should be physically fit and healthy. Running your vending business may require you to move the machines from time to time and will often obligate you to carry heavy objects. And since you’ll be handling cash every time you cash out the machines, you need to be very careful and watch out for potential criminals watching your business.

Another important quality is to have inter-personal skills or people skills. This is also very vital to run the business. You should be able to communicate with the potential businesses where you can place your machines. You do not only talk to them, but you need to convince them that they too could benefit from your business. Without people skills, it’s impossible for you to close great deals for your business.

Determination is also very important. When you’re just starting your business, you’ll receive a lot of rejection from other people most especially from the business owners where you want to place your machines. Without determination, you might easily give up and may not continue the business after all.


And the last but not the least important quality is self-motivation. You should motivate yourself to love the business. Most successful vending machine operators are very interested in the business and they keep themselves updated with latest trends about the industry. If you don’t have self motivation to run the business, then it is most likely that you’ll fail in this endeavor.

To be really successful in vending you have to get interested and start to love putting in the hard work that is required to become successful. Successful vendors are always interested in new machine developments, constantly brainstorm new ideas and always keep an eye out for good locations. The people who do well in this industry are also the ones who enjoy tracking, testing and analyzing things in detail. By doing so, they end up with great locations, find the most suited machine for it and maximize profit by testing and rotating products.

It takes hard work to be able to sit at home and run a business on autopilot. As a vendor you will have to spend time finding new locations, dealing with 'decision makers', visiting suppliers to buy stock in bulk, re-stocking machines and coordinating maintenance and repairs. The work involved is varied and you have to like being out on the road for most of the day when you are starting out.
